About Maggie

Maggie Durbas founded Journey of Yoga in 2004 to inspire health and happiness through the practice of yoga. Maggie’s classes are inspired by her training in Ashtanga and Iyengar style yoga… flowing with the breath to build heat in the body and then holding postures to get the most benefit with a focus on alignment and the multiple dimensions of the body.

· Maggie began her journey into the world of health and fitness in her late teens.

· She took her first yoga class in 1980 and never returned because she thought yoga was like watching paint dry.

· She worked out through the years, and enjoyed running, even completing the Marine Corps. Marathon in 2002.

· After many years in the corporate world, she trained to become a certified personal trainer and then became interested in yoga.

· She studied and was certified as a 200-hour yoga teacher in Embodyoga in Amherst, MA.

· Then she completed a 300-hour teacher training program in the ParaYoga lineage in Hamden, CT.

· Maggie is certified as a 500-Hour Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance.

· She has been studying Ayurveda for over 15 years and she completed her Ayurveda Health Counselor training at the Himalayan Institute in 2016 and is certified with the National Ayurveda Medical Association (NAMA).

· She continues to study as learning is an integral part of her journey.
