After taking her first yoga class, Gizem found yoga was not as easy as she imagined. But she fell in love with how the movement of yoga asana felt in her body… her journey of yoga had begun. She quickly found that the practice helped with her back pain due to scoliosis, and she has continued practicing ever since.
She completed her 200-hr Teacher Training at Journey of Yoga with Maggie Durbas in 2014. After graduation, she returned back to her home country, Turkey. She quit her job as a Mining Engineer and started teaching yoga classes in various gyms and studios. Because she enjoyed practicing with her then 4-year old son, she soon found herself teaching kids yoga in preschools, kindergartens and elementary schools. She loves to teach fun and educational kids yoga classes.
Gizem loves to teach yoga and share the joy yoga has given to her with others. She believes yoga should be accessible to everyone who wants to practice, which is why she likes to use modifications and props frequently in her classes. She encourages her students to ask themselves “How do I feel” question rather than focus on perfection. She thinks that every body is a yoga body. She likes to create a safe space to have fun and explore in her classes. She teaches vinyasa, gentle and kids yoga classes.
Gizem has a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management and B.Sc. Degree in Mining Engineering. When not moving, bending, stretching and strengthening on her mat, Gizem likes to walk, visit new places, play piano and sing. She lives in Farmington with her husband and 6 year old son.
